The cloud cover on Saturday night did create problems for many.
But even with another chance to view the spectacle on Sunday, the phenomenon is not always visible to the naked eye.
A few locals were lucky enough to get a decent vantage point, and capture the lights on their cameras and phones.
Like Mary-Anne Butcher, who sent us this photo taken from North Aratula Rd.
“I could only get these with my phone but was amazed that it captured all the colours,” she told us.

He had speaking honours alongside Leo Barry snr.
The day was well attended despite the overcast and rainy conditions.
PT journalist Rowan Frazer caught up with O’Donnell and a few of of the players before the weather got too wild.
Full details in Friday’s edition.
Firies throw open doors
Deniliquin’s Fire + Rescue NSW firefighters opened up their station in George St on Saturday morning for the annual open day.
The open day is a chance to educate the community about the role of the service, and to recruit new firefighters.
Brigade Captain Marty Smith said the weather conditions did deter a few people, but that everyone had a good day overall.
Local firefighters are always happy to answer your questions about fire safety and prevention, and new recruits are always needed.
