Live art Benalla provides platform for connection and improvisation at Benalla Gallery

LAB founder Tegan Nash-Ollett said the series provided an opportunity for participants to explore improvisation practice while drawing inspiration from other artists and the gallery environment.

“We really want to provide an inclusive space for local talents to share techniques and skills and expand their artistic practice,” Ms Nash-Ollett said.

Artists of all levels are welcome to join the sessions, which will be co-designed and devised between the sharing artists to meet their practice needs and explore new approaches to artwork development.

Benalla Art Gallery director Eric Nash said the series aligned with the gallery’s strategic objectives.

“In our new strategic plan, adopted in early 2023, the Benalla Art Gallery set a vision to become north-east Victoria’s physical, experiential and conceptual meeting point,” Mr Nash said.

“Part of that vision was to provide a meeting point of art forms within our expanded program, embracing music, performance, fashion, design, literature, and architecture alongside the visual arts.

“Fresh Juice utilises the skills already within our region through Live Art Benalla to bring together local musicians, performance and movement artists to form deeper connections and explore new ways of working.”

Commencing on Thursday, April 18, Fresh Juice sessions will be held on the third Thursday evening of each month.

The cost is just a gold coin donation, and light refreshments will be provided.
