Blighty’s minis had a great game against Yarroweyah and finished it off with lollies and cupcakes. Mathoura FNC had a very special round, celebrating their minis, sponsors and First Nations players, past and present, for their Indigenous round.
Deni Rovers and Berrigan minis enjoyed a range of fun activities including goal-shooting competitions, egg and spoon, limbo and three-legged races.
The league-wide Minis Day recognises the importance of friendships and fun in sport.
Successful sale
Despite the cold, the Orana Auxiliary garage sale was a hit, with many people coming through to snag some bargains on Saturday.
Locals braved the cold to support a wonderful cause, for which president Maureen Strutt said she was extremely thankful.
“It was a great success, especially with how cold it was,” Mrs Strutt said.
“I had to wear two overcoats to stay warm!”
The total amount raised is still being counted and will be included in a later edition of the Pastoral Times.
Weather snippet
Speaking of the cold, we are well and truly in the thick of winter now, approaching the halfway mark of the season.
We are seeing some pretty cold temperatures, with most days averaging a low of 1 or 2 degrees and the temperature not getting much higher than 14°C.
Everyone should be pretty used to leaving a bit earlier in the morning to make sure you have enough time to defrost your wind shields.
We are forecast to get some rain today and on the weekend, but don’t let that stop you from getting out and about — just don’t forget a coat and maybe an umbrella!

On this day... in 1810
On this day in 1810 Captain Frederick Hasselborough sights Macquarie Island. He named the island Macquarie after the then NSW Governor, Lachlan Macquarie.
Hasselborough and his crew were hunting fur seals and found large numbers of them at Macquarie. Soon after, news of the richness of the sealing ground spread and during the next 10 years at least 120,000 fur seals were killed for their skins, nearly wiping out the population.
