Australia’s top aerobatic pilot Paul Bennet is set to take to the skies over Deniliquin this weekend for the Deni Ute Muster.

You may have seen him in the skies yesterday for the gate opening ceremony, and he’ll do a few more flights before finishing up his local visit on Saturday.
Known for pushing the limits of flight, Bennet will take to the skies in his Wolf Pitts Pro biplane - capable of handling +12/-10G-forces and flying at speeds over 400km/h.
Expect to see death-defying tricks like forward flips, double hammerheads, and even reversing through smoke, manoeuvres no other aircraft in Australia can perform.
This year’s event will also feature the awe-inspiring SkyAces Formation Aerobatic Team, performing synchronised aerial stunts above the Muster’s main arena.
Mini Musterer
Wednesday’s Spirit of the Muster brought Muster fans in large numbers to the Deniliquin CBD.
There were plenty larger than life characters, but it’s a tiny one that caught our attention.
Toy poodle Harlo sauntered past the Deni PT office in her Muster bluey singlet with handler Jess Maher, and we just had to chase her down.
Harlo and one of her pup mates are continuing their training as assistance dogs for Young Diggers Victoria while in Deniliquin this long weekend.
For her two legged handlers, this is the fourth major festival they’ve attended in less than two months, starting with Mundi Mundi in August. They made the plan after attending last year’s Deni Ute Muster.
Harlo, with Jess Maher, turned heads in the Deni CDB in her Muster singlet on Wednesday.
Set those clocks
It’s not as important to issue a daylight saving reminder as it once was, but we’ll do it all the same.
With the progress in technology, most of our time pieces automatically change themselves.
But those who still use analogue will have to manually set their clocks forward an hour before going to bed on Satuday night (or Sunday morning if you’re up really late after the Ute Muster).
Daylight savings starts 2am Sunday in NSW, and will remain in place until Sunday, April 5.
Check your fire alarms too
The onset of daylight saving is also a key date for NSW Fire + Rescue.
It’s the best time to remind people to check their smoke alarms are in good working order, and to replace the batteries.
We sometimes take it for granted that our smoke alarms don’t need much maintenance, when in fact ignoring them might make them ineffective when they’re really needed.
Residents who are not capable of changing the batteries themselves, or who don’t have a friend or family member to help, can contact the Deniliquin brigade for assistance, on (03) 5890 6678.
