He is participating in The March Charge, a month long fitness challenge.
His goal is to walk 65km during March, and to also raise $1,000.
Originally setting a goal to raise $500, Mr McMahon increased the benchmark when he reached it by the middle of the month.
And with just over a week to go, he’s urging people to get behind the cause.
“Cancer touches nearly everybody at some point in their lives, including members of my family, and I am keen to raise some funds to help fund research and support services,” he said.
“I do a fair bit of walking already, and once I found out about The March Charge I thought why not put it to good use.
“I just felt it was such a worthwhile thing to do.
“Many people have already donated, however I would like to raise more funds. So please donate if you can.”
At the time of going to print, Mr McMahon had walked about 40km for the month, and his fundraising tally is now at almost $800.
