Zone duty operations manager Inspector Glenn Sullivan has been with the unit since its inception in 2011 and was also the training manager until his promotion.
“We currently have 20 active members part of this voluntary organisation and we are always prepared to take on additional staff who would be able to assist us into the future,” Mr Sullivan said.
“It’s an accredited marine rescue unit that performs rescues on the water.”
Before 2011, NSW and Victoria Police needed the specialist knowledge of a unit that intimately understood the Murray River.

“Proceedings and Investigations were commenced in 2011 and the unit was accredited the following year in 2012,” Mr Sullivan said.
“The unit performs rescues on the water under the direction of NSW Police, but due to local arrangements, Victoria Police may occasionally request and assist with search.”
In its more than 13 years of service to the region, the talented team has proven its value in serving the police and the community.
“There have been hundreds of rescues over the years where the unit has supported NSW and Victoria Police,” Mr Sullivan said.
“In operations for inland waterways, the marine rescue unit is principally related to search and rescues.”
Marine Rescue NSW is a volunteer-based not-for-profit professional organisation dedicated to keeping boaters safe on the water and supporting local communities.
