Travelling to Echuca for the round three clash, Mathoura could only muster a rink draw and two losses against last year’s minor premiers, going down 69 to 52 overall.
Joe Murphy, Les Bates, Dennis McHarry and Mick Humphreys (s) secured the only premiership points for Mathoura, with a 23-all draw.
Mick Hooper, John McGowan, Anthony Hulm and Rod Werner (s) were defeated 22 to 15, and Adam Cowley, Rick Ireland, David Hicks and Mark Quor (s) were beaten 24 to 14.
At least there was some joy for Mathoura on the weekend, with Divisions Two, Three and Four all recording a win.
Division Two sit fourth on the ladder following a 66 to 54 win against Echuca at Mathoura.
Mathoura managed two rink wins on the day, with both winners recording 17 shot victories.
David Vallance, Glen McConchie, Craig Hillier and Paul Clear (s) won 28 to 11 and Steve O’Callaghan, Terry Taylor, Al Polak and Ian Hunter (s) impressed with a 31 to 14 victory.
Peter Wilson, Beryl Murray, Mick Beeche and Mick McDonald (s) had a tough day on the greens, suffering a 22 shot loss, 29 to 7.
Division Three remain on top of the ladder undefeated following a 17 shot win at Lockington, 67 to 50.
Ian Ross, David Murray, Pam Limbrick and Stan Limbrick (s) were the strongest performing rink on the day, scoring a 25 to 15 win.
Garry Hulm, Gary Lumsdin, Wayne Cowley and Ray Murphy (s) got up 22 to 17 and Barry Ireland, Merv Lewis, Pam Lewis and Chris Taylor (s) edged out their opponents 20 to 18.
Division Four recorded a victory by the slimmest of margins, scoring a one shot win against Tongala at Mathoura.
Peter Webber, Barry McMillan, Neil Dovaston and Bill Brander (s) were the heroes of the day, managing the only rink win for their side, 25 to 19.
Adam Harding, Danny Wardlaw, Peter Cowley and John Bates (s) were pipped at the post in a 21 to 20 loss, while Bruce Papworth, Tim Robertson, Ginny Kalbeek and John Dean (s) were beaten 19 to 15.
In the midweek pennant, it was wins all round for Mathoura with both the club’s Red and Blue sides recording a win on Friday.
Mathoura Blue broke through with their first win of the season, defeating Echuca Blue 65 to 48.
An outstanding 30 shot win by Stan Limbrick, David Murray, Marj Cowley and Jenny Chalmers (s) led the way for Blue, scoring 37 shots to 7.
Neil Dovaston, Katie McCormick, Kath Hayes and Chris Frampton (s) were beaten 19 to 14, while Gary Lumsden, Judy Maude, Joan Dovaston and Jenny Hicks (s) went down 22 to 14.
Mathoura Red made it three wins from as many games, defeating Moama Green 61 to 39.
Dennis McHarry, Rosa Shea, Virginia Kalsbeek and Beryl Murray (s) combined for a 28 to 11 shot win, while David Vallance, Paul Clear, Joan Moss and Chris Taylor (s) also recorded a win, 22 to 10.
Mick Beeche, Cec Moss, Pam Limbrick and Pam Lewis (s) were unable to make it a clean sweep, going down 18 to 11.
Round four will see a local derby for Mathoura when Mathoura Red face Mathoura Blue.
