As part of the 2025-26 Men’s Shed Funding Program, the Rochy Men’s Shed was one of 31 groups across the state to receive a share of the $860,000 grant pool.

With discussions about redevelopment at the Rochester Elmore District Health Service under way, an upgrade to the Men’s Shed located behind the hospital was also considered.

When the Men’s Shed Funding Program opened, the Rochester Neighbourhood House applied for support.

As one of the Rochester Neighbourhood House’s most popular programs, co-ordinator Amanda Logie said the development of a new Men’s Shed would benefit the community.

“When the opportunity came up for this round of Men’s Shed grants, we just jumped at the opportunity,” she said.

“To be able to provide a new purpose-built space is really exciting for the community.

“The other added benefit is to be able to utilise local suppliers and businesses to do this and to be able to strengthen that working relationship and partnership that we've got with REDHS is really wonderful.”

While the Men’s Shed will remain on the REDHS site, it will move to a more visible and accessible location for the community and aged care residents who wish to take part in the program.

At this stage, much of the foundational work, such as strategic plans, lease agreements and possible designs, have been completed as part of the application process.

The Neighbourhood House team is now working to have plans and permits approved by Campaspe Shire Council before the festive season begins.

Ms Logie said they hoped the project would be ready to begin early in the new year.

“If we get all of our ducks lined up before Christmas, then hopefully we can have everything all submitted,” she said.

“Hopefully, we can have (approval) back early in the new year and then start the process sort of early in the year next year.”

Meanwhile, weekly programs will continue to run at the current Men’s Shed until the new shed is built.
