Mighty result from Nav fundraiser

A whopping $32,000 has been raised for Deniliquin’s Navorina Nursing Home, thanks to Fleming Partners’ ‘Mighty Fundraising Event’.

The event — which incorporated a garage sale, fete games, silent auction and community barbecue in the Mulwala Plaza between 9am and 1pm Saturday — was held to contribute to the $1 million appeal for much needed upgrades at the aged care facility.

The timing saw it fit in with a concerted fundrasing effort in November, nicknamed Navember.

Flemings raised $12,000 and another $20,000 was kicked in through the firm’s association with Count Charitable Foundation.

‘‘The silent auction was a lot of fun, and by far the largest contributor to the amount raised,’’ Mrs Mulham said.

‘‘The lucky squares was also popular, and the garage sale alone raised $1000.

‘‘There was a steady stream of people throughout the day, and there was even facepainting for the kids.

‘‘We’re very happy with how it went, and with the support we received from the community.’’

The Mighty Fundraising Event was the second Navorina Nursing Home fundraising effort by Fleming Partners, who donated more than $4000 after participating in the STEPtember challenge in November.

And Mrs Mulham said more money should be rolling in for Navorina as part of their efforts.

‘‘Our fundraising has been great publicity for Navorina, with a number of our clients choosing to donate separately to our events as well,’’ she said.

The Navorina appeal was launched in June this year, with the intention of raising $1 million to fund upgrades to community spaces in the growing facility.

Before Fleming’s Mighty Fundraising Event, the tally was up to $325,000.

Significant upgrades have been taking place at the facility over the last few years, but Navorina chairman Neville Purtill said community help is needed to finish off the upgrades.

It is part of a multi-year upgrade plan, which has seen Navorina become a 60 bed facility.

The need for the extra beds, and particularly single ensuite rooms, was identified in a review in 2016.

The upgrades started with a realignment of the main entrance in 2016, and the new Hunter Landale Wing — named after one of the nursing home’s original benefactors — was started in 2017 and opened in July 2018.

Stages three and four have been ongoing for 18 months, resulting already in the completion of the Inala Mirradong memory care wing and the new Gordon McCann wing.

The final stage, 4c, will see the original part of the building reconfigured to host residential services and visiting areas.

‘‘This original area is where you’ll be able to find the hairdresser, allied health consultation rooms, meeting rooms, a craft room, multi-media hubs, a new chapel, a cafe and areas where residents can spend time with their families,’’ Mr Purtill said.

‘‘This is the section the community fundraising will be invested in. Government grants have funded the residential areas.’’

It is anticipated all internal works will be completed by March, and then the whole project by April or May. Meeting timelines will depend on whether the $1 million goal can be reached.
