Local children’s book author, and former St Michael’s School principal and teacher, Bernadette Murphy has released a sequel to her 2021 picture book, What Might I Be.

The original is the story of a little seed who doesn’t know what kind of plant it will grow into.
The tale is one many young people can relate to as they develop and make life choices on who they wish to become, while facing many unknowns and uncertainties.
Mrs Murphy said there were “many requests” for a sequel, as the first book has an open ending, allowing the reader to decide the seed’s fate for themselves.
But readers were not satisfied, so once again Mrs Murphy has put pen to paper to provide answers on the little seed with big dreams.
She has kept the process as local as possible, printing with Deniliquin company 3G, and collaborating with a regional artist.
The sequel is out now, and titled Now I Know.
Illustrator Iona Cullenward was previously based in Hay, and is the granddaughter of Deniliquin’s Francie and Tony Cullenward.
She illustrated Mrs Murphy’s book before heading off to the Northern Territory to work as a jillaroo.
“I was fortunate to find another young illustrator, Iona Cullenward, who majored in art in her final year at Ballarat Grammar,” Mrs Murphy said.
“I was thrilled to give another young person an opportunity to be part of a children’s picture book.”

Mrs Murphy plans to continue publishing children’s picture books under the ‘Little Farm Tales’ label.
This new book will be available at Leaves & Vines Nursery, Plains Design, Deniliquin Physio Clinic and Deniliquin Tourist Information Centre.
Books one and two can also be bought in a package, along with a pack of seeds to encourage young gardeners.
