The Landale Public School, on the Moonee Swamp Rd, ceased to exist more than 30 years ago.
In 1980, nearly a decade before it closed, the time capsule was buried with the intention of holding a school reunion 40 years later and digging it up. It is due to happen this year.
At the time the capsule was buried, no-one suspected the school would be closed only nine years later.
So, who is going to organise for the capsule to be dug up?
Ex-Landale student Paul Newman is wondering exactly this and has been seeking out anyone with information about the school and capsule.
Mr Newman attended the school in 1979 and believes the capsule will contain a wealth of historical information and be of great interest to Deniliquin locals and ex-students.
“I believe the original idea was for the capsule to be opened this year but I can’t find anyone who went to the school or would have information on the capsule,” he said.
He believes the time capsule is located near a plaque on the school site, at the corner of Moonee Swamp Rd and Blighty Hall Rd.
“I’d love to touch base with ex students and those who know about it,” Mr Newsman said.
