It was the first major offering of new season lambs for the spring selling period.
Quality was outstanding, with nearly all the young lambs showing very good weight and carcase finish.
There was also a much improved offering of old season lambs that displayed much better presentation and condition compared to recent sales.
The good yarding attracted extra buyers, including the main supermarkets and a major exporter. The regular buying field was also present.
As this was a much bigger and better yarding than a fortnight ago, it is difficult to compare prices to a fortnight ago.
Price outcomes for young lambs were similar to recent comparable markets.
The lead pens of young lambs weighing above 26kg carcase weight sold from $215 to a top of $245/head.
Competition was more animated on the quality trade weight lambs suiting the top domestic processing orders.
The main run of crossbreds in the 24kg to 26kg cwt range sold from $207 to $215 to average $209/head.
Pens 22kg to 24kg sold from $174 to $200 to average about $186/head.
There was a carcass spread of about 750c to 830c/kg cwt over these young lambs, with the sale tending to loose momentum later in the auction.
The sale average over thebest trade weight lambs was estimated at 780c to 800c/kg cwt.
There was a restocking order for bigger framed young lambs to go ontocrops.
There was some very heavy old lambs which sold from $220 to $270/head.
The general run of trade weight old lambs in various skins sold from $167 to $200/head with buyers favouring shorn pens.
Carcase estimates varied from 700c to 780c/kg cwt across the bulk of the offering.
The mutton section had some very good heavy weight Merino, crossbred and Dorper sheep which sold to a top of $193/head.
Good runs of mutton were estimated at costing processors from 550c to 580c/kg cwt.
