Griffith-based tennis coach Danny Dossetor has joined the team this year.
The 35 year-old brings plenty of experience and talent from his achievements in playing US college tennis and the ATP circuit.
Dossetor will run a holiday tennis clinic on Tuesday, October 6 and Wednesday, October 7.
Both sessions will run from 9am to noon.
Tuesday’s session will feature the club’s Tennis Hot Shots registration day.
Dossetor will also become a regular fixture in Deniliquin, offering private tennis coaching on a Friday afternoon as well as helping out the DJLTC with their Tennis Hot Shots program each Saturday.
The tennis coach said he was keen to meet Deniliquin’s junior talent.
‘‘I started playing tennis when I was about five or six,’’ Dossetor said.
‘‘I grew up in the Riverina in Griffith before I went to boarding school in Brisbane to further my tennis after Year 8.
‘‘After I graduated high school, I earned a scholarship in the US where I attended college.
‘‘I went on to play professionally and earned an ATP ranking.
‘‘It wasn’t necessarily a high ranking but to have a ranking is still nice.
‘‘I moved back to Brisbane and got into coaching there for about eight years before moving back to Griffith three years ago.
‘‘I’ve continued coaching there over this time and I can’t wait to help out in Deni.’’
Dossetor also took the time to compliment the Deniliquin Lawn Tennis Club, saying he was particularly impressed by the facilities.
‘‘I was speaking to junior president Jon Gatacre and he said the club was struggling to find a coach,’’ he said.
‘‘I found that so tough to believe when I saw the courts. They’re in such good condition and the upgraded courts look amazing.’’
The junior tennis season will start on Saturday, October 19, with the Hot Shots program featuring three different age brackets, the Red Group (5-8yrs old) and Orange Group (8-10yrs old) from 9am to 10am and Green Group (10+yrs) from 10am to 11am.
Registrations will also be taken for the Junior Squad Section One competition, for players 12 years and older.
Forms must be completed on registration day, at Intersport Bennett’s or by email by October 6.
The cost for registration for the Hot Shots season is $100, with the season running from October 17 to December 12, before an eight week break for school holidays, returning on February 6 until March 27.
