We love to recognise all of you who help drive our local economy and make our community what it is, which is why some of our staff will be there to celebrate with you tonight.
We’ll also bring you all the details of the winners, and of the fanfare on the night.
Make sure to grab a copy of Tuesday’s edition to read about the Business of the Year - an award category we sponsor - and the other winners.
Book Week is here
It’s been a big few weeks for the education sectors, and the fun and festivities keep coming.
Last week was NSW Public Education Week, with many schools having special activities, assemblies and event presenting awards (see page 10).
It followed a brilliant week exploring the artistic talents of children from across the region, when the NSW Department of Education hosted its first ever Pulse Deniliquin showcase of music and dance.
This week, some schools have started Book Week celebrations.
Prepare to see some wonderful Book Week costume photos in our pages very soon.
Fall in love with books
In a case of perfect timing, Edward River Library has chosen Book Week to launch a new program aimed at fostering a love of reading in young children.
Aimed at children up to age five and their parents/carers, the 1000 Books Before School program encourages you to make reading a daily adventure for your young learners.
It’s a fun, free way to build vocabulary, spark imagination and prepare them for a lifetime of learning.
You can sign up for free at Edward River Library (for which membership is free too) and track your books with a special booklet.
You’ll receive milestone certificates and all books count - from the library, home, digital or audio.
Other programs for young children and their families hosted at the library include Baby Bounce every Tuesday at 11am and Children's Storytime every Wednesday at 11am.
Historic VR experience
A new experience is being offered at Edward River Library, and ties in to the Anne Frank exhibition, which can be viewed at the Peppin Heritage Centre.
At the library, you can put on the headset and try out the Anne Frank House VR experience.
You can experience what it was like to hide in Anne's secret annex during World War II.
Walk through a life-like recreation of the rooms and learn about this moment in history.
Make sure to also check out 'Let Me Be Myself - The Life Story of Anne Frank' at the Peppin before it closes on September 26.
Youth program leaders needed
Sonder Youth is working to make its Changemakers Program accessible in more regional areas.
To bring the program to our area, it needs the assistance of 18-24 year olds who are keen to become program leaders.
The Changemakers Program is an after-school program which runs throughout the year, providing a platform for young people to come together to collaboratively design and implement their own fully funded projects for positive change tackling an issue they care about, while learning positive mental health strategies.
Those wishing to become leaders will attend a one week, all expenses covered training program from December 8-12 this year.
