Three seats are up for grabs in both wards, with six candidates standing in Greater Murray - which covers Mathoura - and seven in Moama.
There will be no election in Wakool this year, which only just received the minimum number of candidates to fill the three seats.
As a result, current Deputy Mayor Neil Gorey of Barham and Dennis Gleeson of Calimo will be re-elected to their positions on council uncontested.
With Ann Crow choosing not to renominate, her seat has been given to the only other candidate from the ward - Gary Pappin of Mellool.
All three of the sitting candidates for Greater Murray have renominated.
In the order they appear on the ballot - which just happens to be in the final three spots - they are Geoff Wise, Thomas Weyrich and Kron Nicholas.
Seeking to replace them are three newcomers.
Appearing at the top of the ballot is Norman Berger, with former Deniliquin woman Joy Allen second and Kylie Berryman third.
Current Mayor Frank Crawley and former mayor Chris Bilkey have both re-nominated in the Moama ward.
Nikki Cohen has chosen not to attempt a comeback, but in her place is a former Murray River councillor in Gen Campbell.
Another name familiar to Murray River residents will be that of John Harvie.
Mr Harvie led Murray River Council’s economic development team from 2018 to 2023.
Before that, he led the economic development team in neighbouring Edward River. He transitioned to the role with the merged council after filling the same position with Deniliquin Council.
But Mr Harvie also has experience as a councillor too, having sat on Deniliquin Council from 1987 to 1994. His final two years on the council were as mayor.
Mr Harvie was lucky to land at the top of the ballot draw for the ward.
Next is a new candidate, Graeme Blow, followed by Mr Bilkey, Mr Crawley, Ms Campbell.
Rounding out the candidates are other newcomers, Michael Ludeman and former Deniliquin woman Bianca Hurn.
Local government elections will be held across the state on Saturday, September 14.
Voting is compulsory and absentee voting will not be available.
The automatically elected candidates for Wakool will take up their duties after the election.
