So when she learned she had won a $250 shopping voucher for the George St supermarket as part of its March Madness giveaway, she was ecstatic.
‘‘It’s very generous,’’ Mrs Muldoon said.
‘‘I always try to shop local, and I’ve always found the products at IGA amazing anyway.
‘‘The fruit and vegetables in particular are always lovely and fresh, and the staff are always very friendly.
‘‘This (winning the voucher) was just a lovely surprise.’’
The March Madness promotion ended last week, and rewarded those who spent $30 or more in any one transaction at either IGA, Josh's Bakehouse or Central Cellarbrations Deniliquin.
Prizes were drawn each Wednesday during the month, and store manager Wayne Elliott said almost $1000 in vouchers were given away.
‘‘This is the first time we’ve held this promotion, and all but one of our 20 winners was a local,’’ Mr Elliott said.
‘‘The promotion was a way of giving back to the community after a difficult COVID-19 period.
‘‘We wanted to do something to reward those people who supported us through that period, and to have it one year on from when the pandemic started was a great way to do that.
‘‘As well as the giveaways, we also offered some great specials.’’
During the promotion, 12 $25 vouchers were won, going to Mary Stevens, Kemei Shadrack, Betty Torney, J Grimshaw, Bev Unwin, Kristy Hetherington, Eileen Mason, Wes Follett, Katie Gordon, Steve Baker, Eve White and Jill Howard.
Six $50 vouchers were won by J Noonan, Dorothy Gemmell, Barb Daniels, Janine Smith, Katie Jenkins and Jan Henderson, and Liz Macdonald won the $100 voucher.
Next on the agenda for the Central IGA team is a special Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal fundraiser, which will be held this Thursday.
Staff will dress up in a variety of fun outfits, and dairy manager Skeet Arthur encouraged customers to get in on the action and donate too.
‘‘At least one of the staff members has a special Easter costume to wear, and the other staff will dress up in whatever they find fun,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s the first time we’ve done anything specifically for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. We wanted to do something different but meaningful, and were inspired to go down this track by the Good Friday Appeal volunteers who have been selling raffle tickets in the foyer for the past few weeks. We’ll have a bit of fun and encourage people to come and support us.’’
