Or so says Carolyn Short, who has volunteered in various roles in the district community.
One is attending Orana Residential Aged Care each Tuesday between 9am and 11am weekly.
She’s now been doing that for 17 years, while also being an active member of the Rotary Club of Deniliquin.
Carolyn said her time at Orana is one of her favourite parts of the week.
“I don’t miss a Tuesday. It’s a regular highlight in my weekly calendar,” she said.
“I do nails for the ladies while having amazing chats with them.”
Ms Short said volunteering at Orana is an easy and worthwhile experience - not only for the residents at Orana, but also for herself.
“It’s only a couple of hours, and it doesn’t take a lot.
“It’s a really amazing place. All the staff at Orana do a lot and are very helpful with whatever you’d like to help with.
“It makes a difference in that it’s something nice we get to do, and I get as much out of the connection as the ladies do.”
Orana resident Val Tasker said she looks forward to seeing Carolyn each week, and discussions a range of topics.
“It’s very special to have Carolyn come in on Tuesdays, it’s so much fun,” she said.
“I have done a lot of baking, and it is good to talk about that as well as lots of different things with Carolyn.”
The experience is very much one of bonding, with both Carolyn and Val standing by the motto “what’s discussed on Tuesday mornings, stays at our Tuesday morning catch-ups”.
Orana is always looking for more volunteers.
Whether it’s painting nails, baking, reading poetry or playing cards, any time you give could make a world of difference.
