Fellow founding members Kellie Crossley and Bianca Armytage nominated Paul for the 2020 Commonwealth Bank Not-for-Profit Treasurers’ Awards.
He was one of 2000 treasurers nominated for the awards, and while he did not win Paul was still presented with a certificate of appreciation and congratulated for his work.
‘‘Kellie and I nominated Paul to formally show our appreciation for all the time and effort he put in while he was treasurer of our branch,’’ Mrs Armytage said.
‘‘Paul was with us from when the branch formed in January 2017, up until late last year when he handed the reigns over to Colleen Henderson.
‘‘Without his commitment and dedication in helping us establish the branch we wouldn’t have achieved what we have and we would not have been able to help so many people in our community affected by cancer.’’
Unclaimed super wages
About $13.8 billion in Australians’ hard-earned wages is waiting to be claimed in the form of lost and unclaimed superannuation, including approximately $45 million in Farrer alone.
Workers may have lost or unclaimed super if they have changed their name, moved jobs or changed address, or forgotten to update details with a super fund in the last few years.
Member for Farrer Sussan Ley says if you think you may have money to be claimed, you can log into MyGov and check for lost super with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
‘‘Local numbers indicate there are 1063 lost and unclaimed super accounts from the Deniliquin area, totalling over $3.2 million,’’ she said.
‘‘Actions taken by the Morrison Government have resulted in $7 billion already been reunited with workers across the nation, but with $13.8 billion still waiting it is worth taking the time to check.
‘‘The ATO has done all the work for you. No need to search, no need to hand over information. If you have lost or unclaimed super, it will be sitting there waiting for you.
‘‘If nothing out of the ordinary appears, your super is up-to-date and in order.’’
To check if you have unclaimed funds, log in to MyGov, link the ATO portal to your MyGov account and click the ‘Manage My Super’ button in the ATO portal.
Whittakers book launch
The long awaited launch of the book The Whittakers Story: Australian Pioneers and Pastoralists will be hosted tomorrow at the Deniliquin & District Historical Society.
Brothers Peter and John Whittakers said it is the culmination of their father Clyde’s life’s work.
At the time of his death in 1964 Clyde had researched and written about the lives of his ancestors up until the 1920s.
Some of his notes were completed and compiled by his sister Wanda Whittakers at the time, but the rest of the family’s story was largely untold ... until now.
A special guest at the celebrations will be Ian Bruce, a relative of the Whittakers’, who helped compile the information for the book.
Ian is the grandson of famed Australian author Mary Grant Bruce, who is known for the Billabong series of books — including Back to the Billabong, Billabong Adventurers and Billabong Riders.
Having the launch at the Deniliquin & District Historical Society Museum pays tribute to Clyde being the society’s inaugural president.
The launch will be held tomorrow from 3pm.

Easter flood appeal
The ‘Deni Dragons’ are going the extra mile to show they care this Easter.
Paula Rutter is working rigorously to send a variety of resources to those affected by disastrous floods throughout New South Wales.
‘‘Our flood appeal is taking donations for care packages to be sent to flood victims around the Kempsey region as it is predominantly a farming community like ours.
‘‘We are after the nice things such as Easter eggs for the children, chocolate biscuits, herbal tea, candles. The things that will go a long way to say we are thinking of you and we care.
‘‘We are taking donations at St George Bank and hope to send them mid next week,’’ Ms Rutter said.
Those who wish to give something to those who have gone through so much, are invited to drop their gifts off at the bank in Cressy St.
