The Pat Carey trained five year-old has had three starts for three wins.
He debuted in Western Australia, winning a Bunbury Maiden by six lengths before taking the Echuca Benchmark 70 by the same margin.
Both races were over 1600m.
Impi resumed over 1200m in the Mornington Benchmark 70 and came from midfield to defeat well performed New Zealand gelding Starspangled Rodeo by two lengths.
Trainer Carey said Impi would take benefit from the run but would not be rushed.
“There is no hurry as there are some nice restricted races during the (Melbourne) carnival.”
Jockey Rhys McLeod said a Flemington race is the tong term target.
“There is a nice race on Oaks day over a mile.”
