The NSW Nationals hold a preselection for their Senate candidates before every election.
As per the agreement with the NSW Liberals for the joint Senate ticket, The Nationals put forward two names.
This year there were three nominees, and Senator Davey was selected to lead the ticket with Gunnedah Lawyer Juliana McArthur taking the second spot.
The vote was conducted last Friday, with some metropolitan media speculating Senator Davey might lose the support of her party due to a recent controversy surrounding alcohol consumption before a Senate Estimates hearing.
Senator Davey was called out by metro media for seemingly slurring her speech in the meeting after attending a National Party staff drinks function at Parliament House before the hearing.
Senator Davey denies she was impacted by alcohol, suggesting instead that fatigue and ongoing complications following emergency throat surgery affected her speech.
“As the only New South Wales Senator based outside of the Newcastle-Sydney Basin, I am proud of the work I have done to put regional issues on the table,” Senator Davey told the Pastoral Times this week.
“These include protecting farmers from adverse tax treatment under vacant land provisions, highlighting issues with industrial renewables projects and transmission lines, equitable funding for regional arts organisations and, of course, opposing non-strategic water buybacks under the Murray Darling Basin Plan.
“I put my hand up again because there is a lot more to do.
“I want to ensure Australia does not adopt oppressive climate policies to restrict agriculture as we have seen in the European Union and I want to look at ways to incentivise private enterprise to diversify regional economies.”
Due to The Nationals Party policy, numbers from the preselection vote have not been made public.
