The June screening will be his acclaimed 2007 drama, The Home Song Stories.
The Home Song Stories is directed by Tony Ayres and is based on his own life as a child and the challenges faced by his mother Rose.
Rose, played by Joan Chen, is a beautiful and glamorous Shanghai nightclub singer who meets Bill, an Australian sailor, and migrates to Victoria with her two children, Tom and May.
Mr Ayres says he imagined he was trying to write a film about his mother; eventually he realised it was a story about a boy’s loss of innocence.
In 2009, Mr McMahon and Mr Ayres formed Matchbox Pictures, which has become one of Australia’s leading production companies, producing many award-winning television drama series, feature films, documentaries, and unscripted television series.
Mr McMahon’s production credits include The Slap, Ali’s Wedding, Nowhere Boys and Deadline Gallipoli.
After this Friday night’s screening of Home Song Stories, Mr McMahon has agreed to participate in a Q&A session.
You can attend by becoming a member of the Deniliquin Film Society, either for 12, six or three months. This grants you free admissions to screenings for the life of your membership.
