Tomorrow is your chance to see The Depot and its historic vehicle and memorabilia collection.
Construction of the new attraction started more than a year ago, and culminates in the official Grand Opening Party from 10am to 2pm.
The opening party is the community’s first chance to access the museum, and there will be live music from Michael Hogan and a Rotary sausage sizzle on offer.
There will be children’s activities, including a jumping castle and balloon sculptures.
The collection has everything from horse drawn carts through to fire trucks, and of course the Purtill family’s prized bus ‘Rosie’.
The historic display incorporates vehicles dating from 1908. Each comes from the private collections of local families, and predominantly the Purtill family.
Entry for the party is a gold coin donation, with proceeds going to Deniliquin CanAssist.
Hardinge crash
A ute and small truck collided on corner of Harfleur and Wood Sts at about 3.30pm on Wednesday.
The driver of the ute, from Shepparton, told the Pastoral Times the faded lines markings on the southern side of the intersection meant he did not realise he was meant to give way to Hardinge St traffic.
Drivers of both vehicles were unharmed, but traffic was blocked temporarily while emergency services worked to clear the debris and spilled fluids.
Owner found
The owner of the bike fished out of the Edward River during the weekend’s Deniliquin Fishing Classic has collected his bike.
Dwaine Nayda said the bike had gone missing from his Deniliquin unit about six weeks ago.
He said he was happy to return home from a trip this week to hear tales of the bike coming to the surface on the end of a fishing hook.
‘‘It was one of my favourite bikes,’’ he said.
Seniors Festival
Head to Tai Chi and do some mediation this morning or spend Sunday afternoon listening to talented locals perform.
It is all part of the 2020 Edward River Seniors Festival, celebrating local seniors and offering them a chance to relax and enjoy Deniliquin, its community and what it can offer.
The Tai Chi and meditation class starts at 9.30am today, in the picturesque Waring Gardens. Participants are asked to bring a chair.
The afternoon concert will be hosted at South West Music in Cressy St from 2pm.
The festival kicked off last Friday with a screening of Downton Abbey at Intereach.
Busy with bowls
The next couple of weeks will be busy ones for local bowling clubs.
This weekend will see the rescheduled Deniliquin Rhinos Bowls Night at the Deniliquin RSL Bowling Club Greens.
The event will see teams of four battle it out, with a cost of $20 per person which includes a barbecue dinner and a night of bowls starting at 7.30pm.
The event is strictly no BYO, with drinks available at the bar.
The following week will see bowling action across the road with the Deniliquin Rovers’ Bevies, BBQ & Bowls Family Night at the Deniliquin Bowling Club.
The night, which will serve as a 2020 season launch, is an all ages event starting at 6pm on Saturday, February 28.
The Rovers will hold a barbecue dinner with hamburgers for $4 and a sausage in bread costing $2.
Golfing fundraiser
A feature this weekend is the Deniliquin Golf Club’s charity Funday fundraiser on Sunday, which is a great opportunity for our many learners to play in a competition round.
The Funday is a four-person ambrose format with at least one non-handicap player in each team.
You can put a team together or just write your name on the list in the pro shop and teams will be drawn.
Players should gather at midday for a 12.30pm shotgun start.
Refreshments and a barbecue will be available on course; the $25 entry fee covers golf and sausage sizzle.
