Arthur warned all players pre-match the most likely indoor cricket injury is from a ball to the head, and two overs into the first match Scott Atley proved that theory correct, headbutting a solid cover drive in the field.
Atley’s team — Mac Attack — were inspired by the gutsy effort though, keeping the Tyn-Men to just 27 runs.
In reply, the Macs went on the attack, smashing 68 runs and punishing some average bowling from celebrity vet John Anstee in his first run this season. As Brett Rose put it from the sidelines, watching Anstee’s ‘half trackers’, ‘‘shows you can’t be good at everything’’.
In the second match, Pitts’ Posse notched up a competitive 45 runs with brothers-in-law Todd Gallagher and Sam ‘Beaver’ Callanan partnering for 26, capitalising on their backyard cricket campaigns.
But an even performance from Holobowski’s Hoods saw them storm into the deciders, scoring 57 in total.
The final partnership of Sam Willoughby and Cody Learmonth needed seven to win off two overs, and Posse had gotten back into the contest until skipper Jayden Pitts dropped a sitter off paceman Nick
Glowrey and the momentum swung back in Hoods’ favour.
There was big news before the decider with Hoods’ skipper Ricky Gittens having to pull out with a badly swollen ankle after copping a ball to the foot in game one. So Pitts was drafted into the side to fill the void.
Mac Attack was sent in to bat and smashed 60 off six overs with final pairing Mick Barnett and Atley scoring 33 runs.
In reply, Hoods needed an unlikely 38 to win off the final two overs and brothers Jayden and Liam Pitts almost got them home, falling short by just two runs in what was the partnership of the night.
For Macs, it was a third straight win as they take a stranglehold on the comp.
Keeper batsman Barnett was man of the match taking home the IGA $30 voucher, and Liam Pitts collected the $30 Globe award.
Next week the boys will play the second leg of indoor cricket before swapping to a new sport.
Ladder: Mac Attack 12 points, Pitts’ Posse 8, Hoods 6 (91.43%), Tyn-Men 6 (66%).
