The designated round was an opportunity for the club to celebrate the impact of indigenous players and the community on the Rams’ continuing history.
At 2pm, before the A-grade netball and senior football matches took place, players and spectators gathered to witness an indigenous smoking ceremony, dance and welcome to country by representative Sacha Free.
Players played their respective games in honour of Rams life member Robbie Gittens who was one of the main drivers and founders behind the Rams’ indigenous round, with all grades of football and netball wearing their special indigenous jumpers and netball bibs across the weekend.
The Rams’ indigenous round is in line with the AFL’s own indigenous Sir Doug Nicholls round, honouring the extraordinary contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players, cultures, and communities to Australian football .
The round may have helped the Rams’ results, with both the senior footballers and A-grade netballers achieving a win in front of a strong home crowd.
