The second volume of a book that records stories on the Deniliquin district’s pioneers is now available to the public.

Pioneers of Deniliquin Volume 2 was officially launched at the Edward River Library on Saturday.

It is the finalisation of a Deniliquin Genealogy Society project, following on from the first volume that was published about four years ago.

Pioneers of Deniliquin (pre 1900) Volume 2 includes stories on well-known names in our region’s history - such as George Hall Peppin, Franc Sadleir Falkiner and Alfred Finch Noyes - and some of the other locals who helped shape the community.

In total the book contains 49 stories, plus some great old photographs.

Genealogy Society president Val Hardman said the book has been published by the Genealogy Society with funding support from Edward River Council’s community grants program.

“That support was invaluable, and so we had Mayor Peta Betts come along and officially launch the book for us,” Mrs Hardman said.

“We also had Deniliquin & District Historical Society president Lindsay Renwick as a guest speaker.

“We had up to 40 people attend the launch, a lot of them authors who contributed to the book.

“Some of the guests even came from northern Victoria to be part of what was a lovely morning.

“We kept the launch itself short, and spent the rest of the time chatting over morning tea.

“We also sold a lot of books.”

Anyone who would like to purchase a copy of the book can do so by calling Mrs Hardman on 0402 443 393, or copies can also be purchased at Edward River Library and the Historical Society museum in Macauley St, Deniliquin.
