Of that, just under $500,000 has been allocated to the Murray region.
It includes $25,000 to support Edward River Council’s Heritage Grants Program, which opened for applications last week.
The funding is designed to “assist with preservation of heritage listed buildings and buildings within the heritage conservation area”.
Murray River Council has also been awarded $25,000, which will be matched by council to support a two-year program.
Like at Edward River, MRC manager economic development & tourism Beck Hayward said a portion will be used to run the local Heritage Grants Program.
Some will also provide a Local Heritage Advisor service for the community.
“Council has been running these two programs for many years, with the exception of financial year 2024 and financial year 2025, while we undertook an update to our Heritage Strategy,” Ms Hayward said.
“Further information on the grant program and heritage advisor service will be placed on council’s website in the coming weeks.
“Anyone wanting to discuss these programs can contact Council’s Planning department on 1300 087 004.”
Other councils receiving $25,000 in funding from the grants program are Berrigan Shire Council, Hay Shire Council and Leeton Shire Council.
Specific projects receiving funding directly from the NSW Government include the installation of fencing and signage at Warangesda Mission near Darlington Point ($106,044), conservation works at the Toganmain Woolshed Precinct near Coleambally ($82,500), and conservation of the Our Lady of Pompei Roman Catholic church in Yoogali ($170,430).
