I wish to express my concern at the proposed renaming of the North Deniliquin truck rest area.
In the interests of achieving a positive outcome for all interested parties, I would like to recommend that the area should be named the ‘Transport Legends Rest Area’.
The rest area has traditionally been classed as exactly that - a truck stop/rest area/weighbridge for the NHVR Heavy Vehicle Inspection station - originally built by the DMR/RTA, and still used by the NHVR.
The newly constructed parkland area and car park with restrooms is on the former site of the North Deniliquin Tennis Courts, and was named the Flo Allen Reserve.
I believe the reserve is fortunate to be named for such a community great, but the Deniliquin Truck Show and Industry Expo Inc and Deniliquin District Wall of Fame Committee strongly feel that the remaining section, the rest area, should be named ‘The Transport Legends Rest Area’.
Both committees have worked very hard to place its Wall of Fame and memorial wall monument in the rest area.
It was placed there back in 2015, under the thne Deniliquin Council, using thousands of dollars from the Truck Show and local community money.
Our suggested name would be further tribute to the trucking greats from our local area, and would ensure it continues to remain the home of the artistic signage that designates our trucking heroes.
Yours etc.
