After a successful design consultation with stakeholders, including Deniliquin High School and skate park designers Convic, an outline is ready for community consideration.
“Building on consultation with skate users earlier this year, we received feedback that the community wanted to see improvement to this area, and we are thrilled to be able to progress this,” said Edward River Council director of infrastructure Mark Dalzell.
ERC secured design funding from the Department of Planning and Environment under the Open Spaces Program, Places to Play stream.
In conjunction with the local community, the project aims to create a high-quality and innovative skate park that showcases design excellence in adventure play.
“Adventure play spaces such as skate parks help children and young people build self-confidence, learn skills, and provide a positive social outlet,” Mr Dalzell said.
“These sports are also a great way to exercise, benefiting health and wellbeing,.”
The suggested design identifies opportunities for street-style skating, seating, shade netting and general upgrading.
Design plans will be updated, taking into consideration feedback received.
These will be made available on council’s website. Council will be seeking further funding to build the project.
