This year the activities will commence at 8.30am with a community breakfast prepared by Deniliquin Rotary, and provided to the community at no charge.
In addition, the Edward River Concert Band and Sing Australia will provide entertainment leading up to the official ceremony at 10am.
Mayor Peta Betts says she is delighted to announce our Australia Day Ambassador as Robbie Sefton.
Ms Sefton grew up in Deniliquin and now runs a successful consultancy firm, which sees her work closely with all levels of government and various other sectors.
“Robbie is well known to many within the Edward River Council area, most recently assisting council in the formation of the overarching Edward River Council Strategic Plan,” she said.
“Robbie always brings passion and vision to the table and I for one are looking forward to her address.”
The Australia Day Ceremony will include the announcement of the Edward River Council Australia Day Awards including Citizen of the Year, Senior and Junior Sports Award, Arts and Culture Award, Community Event or Initiative of the Year and Environmental Citizen of the Year – Bill & Elwyn Hermiston Memorial Award.
Cr Betts said the awards attracted a total of 21 very worthy nominations.
“Whilst the decision-making process is very difficult, it also highlights how many within our community give back on a daily basis,” Cr Betts said of the number.
With all the activities on offer, the Australia Day festivities are expected to finish up at about 2pm.
