Miss Parsons will be the beneficiary of the fundraising trivia hosted by Rotary on Saturday, as its nominee for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.
It will allow her to attend a week long program that will focus on improving leadership skills.
Miss Parsons has worked at the Deniliquin Travel Centre since graduating from Deni High eight years ago.
She has worked primarily as a travel consultant, but has recently stepped up as team leader.
‘‘I was surprised to be selected for the program, but I think it will be a great opportunity to improve myself,’’ Miss Parsons said.
‘‘I wanted to develop my leadership skills personally and professionally, so I think this will be the perfect environment.
‘‘I have enjoyed stepping up as team leader in my boss’s absence, working with others and my colleagues, but I think everyone has room for improvement.
‘‘It is great that Rotary is supporting Deniliquin's local youth.
‘‘And without the fundraising by Rotary and the community’s support for those events, this opportunity could not be possible.
‘‘Our community is incredible, and I am grateful for the opportunity everyone involved have given me. I look forward to improving my own skills and bringing those back and applying them in my job and my personal life.’’
Deniliquin Rotarian Lesley Hills said RYLA was an empowering conference for young adults and believes Miss Parsons will greatly benefit from attending.
Rotary raised $2625 at Saturday’s trivia night to help send her to the program.
‘‘Elle was chosen for her strong work ethic, can-do attitude, enthusiasm and her involvement in the local Rams Football Netball Club as a volunteer, player, committee representative and in supporting the development of the juniors,’’ she said.
‘‘Rotary hopes Elle will gain some great skills, including conflict resolution, global leadership, teamwork, goal setting, networking, communication, empathy and resilience, to name but a few.
‘‘It is incredibly important that Rotary has community support for our fundraising events, like the Music Trivia night, because without it we wouldn’t be able to offer this incredible opportunity to our town’s young adults.’’
