On the road against Katunga, the Rovers were dominant throughout and were 67 points up at three quarter time having allowed just three goals, before the sides shared 13 goals in a barn-burner final term.
The Roos ran out 64 point winners, with Josh Flight, who made a speedy recovery from an ankle injury sustained the previous week, continuing his excellent form with seven goals, while Terry Lumbar chipped in with five.
Dylan Kerr (three goals), James Gilligan, Rhys McCulloch and Joe Hay were also good for the Rovers, with Austin Jones, Josh Smith, Will Newman and Kevin Vandengoor (three goals) the Swans’ best.
Final score, Deni Rovers 19.14 (128) to Katunga 10.4 (64).
Roos coach Josh Bode said the win came down to a solid team effort.
‘‘We had the pressure on them all over the ground all day,’’ he said.
‘‘It was just a real team effort with everyone contributing.
‘‘We played Josh Flight deep in the forward 50 and he kicked 7.6 for the day, but it wasn’t just Josh who played well up forward.
‘‘Both Terry Lumbar and Dyl Kerr had ripping games up forward and were hard to split for best on ground.
‘‘Maysie (Andrew May) was solid in the middle again and Gilly (James Gilligan) played well at centre half back and in the ruck.
‘‘We also moved Djaran (Whyman) in the middle of the ground and that paid off. We might have just found where he plays best.
‘‘In the last quarter we took James Kirby and Nathan Kerr off to rest them up a bit which gave thirds kids Kaiden Joss and Brock Redden a full quarter of senior footy.’’
Having turned their season around from being 4-6 to 8-6, the Rovers are beginning to lurk as a dangerous prospect in sixth on the ladder.
‘‘We’re starting to get a bit more continuity in our playing positions,’’ Bode said.
‘‘This time last year we lost three in a row and eventually crashed out in finals after a strong start to the year.
‘‘It’s been a real good turnaround over the past month and we’re starting to hit form at the right time.
‘‘It’s a massive weekend for the club coming up when we host Rennie on Saturday.
‘‘It doesn’t get much bigger than playing the reigning premier, so along with our 250 club draw and goods and services raffle, it should be a big day.’’
The Roos reserves have locked away a double-chance in finals after recording a 99 point win over the Swans.
A dominant performance from the start saw the Rovers leading by 44 points at half time.
Locking things down in defence, the Roos kept Katunga goalless in the second half to run away with the win.
