His appointment was confirmed this week, and he will start in the new role from Monday, September 8.
Mr Duncan’s most recent clubs role was with the Mulwala Water Ski Club, where he was CEO for 15 years.
He left the role in January this year to enter retirement, but said he “wasn’t really enjoying it”.
So when he heard about the job opportunity at the Deniliquin RSL, he jumped at the chance.
While he is from Yarrawonga, Mr Duncan said he is very familiar with the Deniliquin RSL Club and its services.
“My wife’s sister and brother-in-law live in Deniliquin - Anne and Graham Allitt - so we’ve visited the Deniliquin RSL Club many times over many years.
“And actually, before I was CEO at Mulwala I thought about applying for a job there.
“This club has a proud history and a strong membership base.
“My focus will be on building on that foundation - investing in facilities, diversifying revenue streams, and ensuring the Deni RSL remains at the heart of the community.
“I look forward to working closely with the Board, staff, and members to deliver a vibrant and successful future.”
During his tenure at Mulwala Water Ski Club, Mr Duncan oversaw more than $22 million in capital improvements, doubled membership to more than 12,000, and transformed the club’s financial position from a $7 million debt to holding more than $5 million in reserves with no debt.
He is recognised as a hands-on, community-minded leader who builds strong teams and delivers strategic growth.
His leadership style - described as “lead from the front and earn respect, not expect it” - has driven award-winning success, including the Australian Clubs Entertainment Award (2016) and multiple regional business awards.
Deni RSL board chair Bob Crampton said Mr Duncan’s appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Deni RSL Club.
“Peter brings a wealth of industry knowledge, proven financial management skills, and a deep commitment to community engagement,” he said.
“The board is confident his leadership will strengthen our position as a leading regional club and enhance the experience of our members and guests.”
