At the time of going to print yesterday the school had advised it would be “non-operational” until the end of this week.
Principal Rhonda Blacker said this would allow for “the necessary checks of facilities and utilities are made”.
It is unclear whether the closure will be extended beyond this time.
Water covered most of the roads surrounding the school, and impacted the school grounds.
Parents and carers of students were provided with a link for at-home learning to ensure that the flood did not wholly deprive the students of their regular education.
Deniliquin Children’s Centre also has to close its services Wednesday, after the lagoon system running behind the facility flooded their grounds.
General manager Felicity Michael said while inundation was limited to the play areas, the main concern was that the toilet systems would be non-operational until the water receded.
“We are all okay, and we’re lucky to have plans in place for something like this,” Mrs Michael said yesterday.
Edward Public School remains closed today while safety assessments take place.
“Council, and everyone else” has been very supportive, and hopefully we will only be closed for one day,“ she said on Wednesday.
