A pelican stopped by to check out the water tower art in west Deniliquin.
It’s not so unusual to see a pelican in Deniliquin - they like to take a break from the seaside and holiday on the Edward River.

They’ve also been spotted enjoying the lagoon system from time-to-time, particularly the Werrpanakata Fish Park (Brown’s Park) next to Deniliquin TAFE.
But we’ve also discovered this week that they love a piece of public art.
A PTee reader was quite taken aback to see a large pelican exploring the water tower mural in west Deniliquin, adjacent the ‘Rocket Park’, this week.
After a bit of a walk around, seemingly admiring the artwork, it took a bit of rest right in front of the colourful mural.
It was just long enough for a nearby resident to snap some great pics.
The Quilts over The Pews showcase added extra colour to the Anglican Church.
Quilts add extra colour to church
Deniliquin’s Anglican Church is known for its colour and beauty, thanks to the amazing stained glass window at the front of the church.
Last weekend, even more colour was injected into the church.
Members of the Deniliquilters & Friends were given permission to take over the church for its Quilts Over The Pews display.
Quilts made by members were literally placed over the church pews, and community members were invited to come and inspect the intricate work up close.
Quilter Trish Brose said the event was well supported over Saturday and Sunday.
She also thanked the church for allowing the Quilters use of the space.
Another quilt show is coming up for the Quilters, which doubles as a Deniliquin Can Assist fundraiser.

Cars needed for training
Moulamein emergency services responders are seeking old cars for use in road crash rescue training.
Ian ‘China’ Gibson said the last time they asked for donations, they were overwhelmed with offers.
“If you‘ve still got one in your backyard, give us a ring. It could help save someone’s life.
“Barham Road Crash Rescue also needs cars to practice on.
“We can come out and pick them up to make it easier.”
For Moulamein pick up or drop off, ring Gary on 0427 823 572 or Alan on 0422 907 090.
For Barham pick up or drop off, ring Andrew on 0427 080 262.
Sculpture deadline looms
Another call-out from ‘Moulamein Matters’ columnist Ian ‘China’ Gibson is directed to the district’s artists.
He says the deadline is quickly looming for the Moulamein Gallery’s bi-annual sculpture competition on Saturday, June 7.
“This great event will be happening on the King’s Birthday weekend,” he reports.
“There is more than $2000 up for grabs.”
There are two competition sections - large sculptures, and small sculptures which must have a base no larger than 30cm by 50cm.
The sculptures do not have to be welded but must be freestanding, and recycled materials must be used.
The reminder is as much for China, as it is for other artists.
“I have one half made, and several in my head that just have to be welded together. ‘Next week’, I keep telling myself,” he said.
“Be sure to get yours done, as next week can very quickly turn into last week, and you will miss out.”
Time capsule time running out
There’s only two weeks left to get your entries for the Rotary Club of Deniliquin’s next time capsule.
Replacing a time capsule that was unearthed in January this year, the next will be brought back up in 2050.
It will be buried on June 14, and envelopes for inclusion must be submitted by May 30.
Envelopes are still available and cost from $10 to $100, depending on size.
They can be purchased from My Shop in Napier St, 1521/2QN or the Pastoral Times office.
