Supporters of the Deniliquin Rhinos Cricket Club have posted a ‘shout out’ to all businesses and residents to decorate in the club’s signature red, black and white as the A-grade and C-grade teams head into the Murray Valley Cricket Association finals this weekend.
Both Deni sides finished the home and away season at the top of the ladder.
A-grade will play their first final in Deniliquin this Saturday and Sunday, and spectators are encouraged to pop down to Memorial Park and show their support on the sidelines.
The perfect time to check out the new Rhinos/Deniliquin Netball Association clubrooms at the same time if you haven’t already.
For those wishing to support C-grade, it’s only a short drive to Berrigan for Saturday’s game.
Reports from the weekend’s games are in today’s PT Sport.
Bowlers in grand finals
But don’t forget to show your support for our local bowlers too.
Our two local clubs - Deni Bowling Club and Deniliquin RSL Bowling Club - will go head-to-head in the Campaspe Division grand final for Division 5 this weekend.
DBC’s Division 2 side has also made it to the grand final this Saturday, to take on the Moama Steamers.
The bowls grand finals will be held in Lockington.
Results from the preliminary finals are in today’s PT Sport.
Deni pit stop
There might have only been five riders in the motorcycle group that stopped in Deniliquin yesterday, but they still turned heads.
A very small portion of riders attached to the BMW Motorcycle Club of Victoria, the Deni pit stop was all thanks to former local Chris Renwick being one of the group.
“Our club is celebrating 50 years, and they are doing this a number of ways,” Mr Renwick told us.
“One is via a 1800km, four day club ride from Melbourne with overnight stops in Wangaratta, Balranald, Horsham and home on Wednesday 26.
“Being born in Deni I’m very happy to be able to make the ride, even though it will be a hot one.”
While Mr Renwick is not ride co-ordinator, he did say fellow club member Chris Seabrook was happy to let him organise the Deni part of the ride.
The riders stopped in Napier St about 12.30pm yesterday, and caught up with Mr Renwick’s uncle, Lindsay Renwick, at Frank n Beans.
Book your breast scan
The BreastScreen NSW bus is headed back to Deniliquin this May and June, and locals are being encouraged to check their eligibility and book.
BreastScreen NSW provides free breast screening mammograms (breast x-rays) to women in NSW.
The aim is to improve the survival rate of women with breast cancer by detecting breast cancer early.
A mammogram is the best way to detect breast cancer early, before any symptoms are noticed.
Women aged 50–74 are encouraged to have a free breast screen every two years.
Women can screen at clinics or in mobile breast screening vans that travel around the state.
Talk to your GP about screening, or call BreastScreen NSW on 13 20 50 to book an appointment for when the bus is in Deni.
You can also learn more about screening, screening locations and eligibility at www.breastscreen.nsw.gov.au.
