If you are a lover of photography or have a keen interest in anything space related, this exhibit is for you.
It features winners, runners-up and honourable mentions from the 2021 David Malin Awards - Australia’s most prestigious award for astrophotography.
The exhibit has spent some time at the CSIRO Parkes Observatory's Visitor's Centre, before making its way to Deniliquin.
It is on display in the hallway of SOuth West Arts in End St, where it will stay until July 28 before continuing on its regional tour.
South West Arts community projects officer Brooke Doughty said it is exciting to be able to bring back this wonderful exhibit to Deni.
“This is the fourth year we’ve had it and it’s always really popular,” she said.
“It’s something different from the usual exhibitions and brings in different people.
“We get a lot of photographers come through, people who have an interest in astrology and the students seem to love it as well.”
Ms Doughty said South West Arts love to get the local schools involved, to encourage education and awareness of the arts.
“It’s important for young people to be exposed to the arts and help them see a pathway into a creative career,” she said.
“Hopefully the exhibition also encourages people to look into astrophotography a bit more, because we are in a perfect location for it.”
The David Malin Awards started in 2005, in honour of globally acclaimed astrophotographer David Malin.
He is best known for inventing new ways to capture the true colours of our night sky, techniques which also led to the discovery of two new types of galaxies.
Between a Rock and Outer Space, taken by Marley Butler, was the winner of 2021’s awards and is also featured at the exhibit.
"What makes it work is the overall colour balance, the evident but not dominant rocky foreground, and the softened, time-exposed sea," wrote David Malin about the piece.
The exhibition can be viewed daily, but weekend access will need to be arranged with Deniliquin Visitor Information Centre staff who are located at the End St building until renovations at the Peppin Heritage Centre are completed.
