Originally expected to be held next month, it was to feature sporting legends Simon O’Donnell and Laurie Daley.
The club will look at holding it on a date later this year.
The decision was made this week and announced via social media.
In the meantime, the Blue Heelers continue to march toward their first round of the Proten Community Cup, which will be Saturday, May 24 against Hilston in Ivanhoe.
Anyone wishing to be involved is invited to attend training each Wednesday from 6.30pm at Rotary Park.
Prospective players, committee members and sponsors are also welcome to contact Blue Heelers president Kurt Longford, or the club via its Facebook page.
Oz Day feedback welcomed
Edward River Council is asking all who attended its Australia Day celebrations to complete a short questionnaire.
The formal celebrations took place at the Deniliquin Town Hall, with the Australia Day awards being presented there.
Since the conclusion of all the festivities from ERC, they are actively trying to improve their celebrations and event by getting locals to share their thoughts and feedback with them via a survey.
The ERC aims to make it an even greater event in years to come, to complete the survey go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZPWLKRK.
Best behaviour expected at challenge
Efforts are being made to protect those taking place in this weekend’s Edward Kolety Fishing Challenge.
The event’s organisers have announced via their social media page they will have security in place.
This not only ensures the safety of patrons, but also helps protect them from property related crimes.
“If you’re cruising by river to HQ for the social events over the weekend, these legends have your back,” the committee said.
“We have light towers and security guards at Willoughbys Beach so you can park your tinny or barge and wander up and enjoy the night worry free.”
Ticket holders and community members also have a role to play in keeping everyone sale.
Adhere to the rules, keep valuables with you or secured where possible, and report a suspicious activity to organisers, security or Deniliquin Police by calling CrimeStoppers on 1300 333 000 or the Deni station on 5881 9299.
Still on the weekend ahead, those participating in the Challenge, local sport or other activities are warned of some warm conditions coming up.
While the temperature predictions for Saturday and Sunday are expected to be a respectable 33ºC, the UV index is expected to be ‘very high’ both days.
Remember to Slip, Slop, Slap and Wrap to protect yourself from the sun, and hydrate regularly.
There’s also a chance of less than 1mm of rain each day, which is likely to have an effect on the humidity.
Today’s top temperature is expected to be 39ºC, but organisers say with plenty of shade and cool drinks to enjoy tonight at Memorial Park you don’t have to worry about being overcome by the heat.
For details on the event can be found on page 1 and 3 of today’s edition.
Caravan weighing coming to town
