Students get a taste for literature

Each student had the opportunity to gather around a table set for a delicious dip into a wide range of books that had been carefully selected by staff.

The books were chosen to showcase a variety of narratives, both modern and classic, that would engage and challenge the students at their personal level of reading.

During the book tastings, students browsed through the books, reading the blurbs and the first chapters in order to select one that interested them.

These books will now be used by the students to explore specific language features that are being explicitly taught in the Year 5 and 6 morning literacy sessions.

The term one goal is for students to reach 15 minutes of silent sustained reading every morning.

This time enables the students to become completely involved in the book world.

More ‘restaurants’ for book tastings will be opened each term.
