It’s the second time Summer has achieved a great result after skipping and raising almost $1,500 in 2016.
The 11-year-old told the Free Press she was jumping in honour of her late uncle who sadly passed away suffering from a heart condition in 2016. She also said she was jumping for her best friend Maddy who has a hole in her heart.
Summer said she was well supported in her fundraising efforts.
“I got sick right before the day we were meant to skip but a lot of my family helped me raise money. My nan and pop, family and friends and my mum’s work mates gave some money,” she said.
“Uncle Brandon died when I was four and he was pretty young.
“Jump Rope for Heart is all about raising money for people with heart conditions and it can help them with treatments.”
Established in 1983, Jump Rope for Heart is a skipping and Heart Foundation fundraising program run in Australian primary schools throughout the year. It encourages kids to have a positive attitude towards exercise, healthy eating and heart health while raising vital funds to fight heart disease.
The Heart Foundation supports over 580,000 Australians living with heart disease today, as well as working tirelessly to prevent and manage heart disease for future generations.
Each year Jump Rope attracts more than 300,000 students, in more than 1,300 schools, with more than 500,000 sponsors comprising families, friends and members of local school communities.
The program is designed to encourage a positive attitude towards exercise, healthy eating and heart health.
