And while the local club may not be as prepared as it would like to be you can be assured they will give it a good crack.
The club was almost brought to its knees several years ago at the hands of the Wakool Football Club and while its performance may not have been anywhere near what it would have liked, it’s never say die attitude won it many friends and supporters.
Many of the guys and girls played two games each week just to keep the club going – to the joy of district chiropractors and others with remedial skills.
So the best thing we can do to support them now is to register as a member and attend the home games, the first of which will be tomorrow against Rennie.
Let your voices be heard and let the club know it has your support.

A book on the lives of a well known local family and its chosen vocation will be launched in Mathoura next Saturday, April 9.
Entitled ‘Bocks – Three generations as Mathoura Bakers’, the book has been written by Deniliquin man, Ian Lea.
It tells the story of the family’s business and personal lives as well as its great community commitment.
The launch, by Ian Lea and Jeanette Fealy (nee Bock), will take place at the United Church Hall following a light luncheon at midday.
An open invitation has been extended to all interested locals who, for catering purposes, are asked to RSVP to Jeanette by emailing jrbxx33@gmail.com or sending a text to 0419 603 554. Please list the names of all who will be attending.
The 120 page historical book will be available for purchase on the day.

Congratulations are the order of the day for local teacher, Mrs Rachael Flett.
Mrs Flett has been appointed Mathoura Public School’s assistant principal, curriculum and instruction.
Her introduction to MPS came in 2019 as an extra-curricular teacher through the Rural Experience Program.
It was a win:win situation for all concerned with Mrs Flett developing a love for teaching locally while quickly integrating herself into the school community, and sharing her extensive knowledge and inclusive approach to education.
After 12 months back in Sydney she applied for a teaching position in her own right at MPS and rejoined the local staff in 2021.

Play in Mathoura Bowling Club’s champions has continued with another round in the mixed pairs and ladies pairs.
The mixed pairs saw P Lewis/M Quor defeat J & N Dovaston while P Limbrick and J Moss moved to the next round after defeating P Lewis/G Kalskeek.

There is nothing like jumping on your bike and riding along with the wind in your hair.
Mathoura Public School students were able to enjoy this experience last week when students took part in the annual ‘Ride to School Day’.
Arrival at school also produced another surprise with heaps of breakfast goodies to tuck into before class began.

The Mathoura community lost two of its own last week.
They were Pauline ‘Polly’ Benham and Al Grubb who were community contributors through their association with the Mathoura Events Committee.
Sympathy is extended to their families.

The last day of term at Mathoura Public School on Friday, April 8 will be a lot of fun for all.
An Easter Hat Parade will be followed by a mini cake stall hosted by the school’s P&C.
Organisers would welcome donations for the stall that will be held in the school’s COLA at 2.30pm.
