Public feedback is being sought on Neoen’s proposal to develop the Tchelery Wind Farm, about 30km north-east of Moulamein.

Its development application and environmental impact assessment (EIS) are now with NSW Government’s Department of Planning and Environment for review and approval.

Members of the public can view all documents and are welcome to submit their views on the project until August 1.

While Tchelery Wind Farm is not one of the projects granted right of access for the South West Renewable Energy Zone earlier this year, planning has continued to get the project to ‘shovel ready’ stage in case an opportunity opens up in the future.

The wind farm is closer to both Moulamein and Hay than Deniliquin, but is located within the Edward River Council region.

The turbines are expected to be built on land which houses the Tchelery homestead and woolsheds.

Neoen are planning to build wind turbines with tip heights of about 270m, with a total capacity of up to 800 megawatts.

According to the project EIS, the project would include the construction of up to 74 turbines, providing a total generation capacity of up to 577 megawatts (MW) and up to 350 MW Battery Energy Storage System with a maximum energy storage capacity of 1,450 megawatt-hours.

It is anticipated the project would be connected into the National Electricity Market through Project EnergyConnect (NSW-Eastern Section) or the existing 220 kilovolt transmission line, both of which run through the project site, or similar electricity network infrastructure.
