Thieves target two more brigades

Another two rural fire stations have been broken into over the weekend and diesel siphoned from the fire trucks.

In a similar fashion to the Pine Lea station break-in last week, both the Birganbigil and Tullakool Rural Fire Service stations were ram-raided.

The break-in at Birgabigial was discovered on Sunday, and Tullakool yesterday.

They are the sixth and seventh break-ins of fire stations so far this year.

Mid Murray Rural Fire Service district assistant John Temlett said the theft of the fuel is frustrating by itself.

But he said the greater concern is that the thefts are leaving fire brigades unable to respond in the event of an emergency.

“The cost of replacing the fuel is one thing, but that was two more fire stations off line,” he said.

“And now we’re going to have to deal with the extra cost of improving security at all our stations too.

“Our stations are being targeted, and it’s becoming a bit of a problem.

“We encourage anyone with information to please report it to the police.”
