The Rams faced off with the Lions in thirds and fourths footy with Deni coming away as victors in both games.
The thirds clash was an absolute thriller, with the Rams coming away with a three point comeback win.
It was the Lions who looked likely to win in the first term, booting five goals to Deni’s one to take a commanding lead.
Defence proved the key for the Rams however, holding Hay goalless in the second term while adding two of their own.
Deni won the third stanza with two goals to one, trailing by a slender margin at three quarter time.
The Lions were again held goalless in the last, with Deni managing one major for the term to overcome the tough opposition.
Rams thirds coach John Fitzpatrick said it was one of the best games of thirds footy he has witnessed.
‘‘It was a really good hit-out played in good spirit,’’ he said.
‘‘They had a couple of first year senior players in their side and we also had Harry Hillier line up for us.
‘‘Cooper Willoughby was outstanding in the middle and Tom Bradley was everywhere.
‘‘The back six were solid and kept to the structure all day. Overall it was a good even contribution.’’
It was one-way traffic in the fourths clash, with the Rams dominating Hay.
Deni fourths coach Anthony Bradley said while official scores weren’t kept, the score at the final siren ‘‘would’ve been 148 to nil’’.
‘‘We had 20 players on the day and all of them got plenty of game time,’’ he said.
‘‘With the way the game was going, we got to have all of our players practice in a few different position which was good. Everyone played really well and particularly enjoyed switching it up to play different roles.’’
