Although he was quiet for the first three quarters, he cut loose in the last with a match-winning cameo.
Sealing the win with two clutch set-shot goals, with one drawing comparisons to the AFL’s greatest goalkicker Tony Lockett.
The Power came from behind in the last quarter to defeat the Dogs by 14 points in a pulsating clash at the Adelaide oval.
“I would nearly have him kicking for me after the siren, Marshall,” commentator Matthew Richardson said on Channel 7.
In reference to the harder of the two goals, Richardson said “What a kick. Drop punt, wet night. Might be the match-winner”.
Fellow commentator Hamish McLachlan noted that Marshall stacked up against Lockett with his accuracy.
“In the last three years, Marshall has kicked 79.31. Going at 72 per cent,” he siad.
“Lockett was at 69 percent. He is elite,” he said.
AFLW great Erin Phillips chipped in saying kids should take note of Marshall’s routine.
“He is very relaxed and he is confident, and once you have a routine and you are confident, you back yourself; and he does that every week,” she said.
Ankle deep in yellowbelly ... literally
Yellowbelly fingerlings congregrate at Lockie Spinks' ankles after being released into the Edward River.
Young angler Lockie Spinks is not new to handling a yellowbelly - his favourite fish to catch.
But he got an entirely new experience on Thursday, and that was the sensation of thousands of them around his ankles.
The eight year old joined his father Lloyd and others in releasing about 6000 golden perch fingerlings into the local waterways.
At the release at McLean Beach, it was up to Lockie to wade into the water and help open the bag.
As expected, the fingerlings made a break for it, but they congregated around his feet first before exploring the big yonder.
Some of the older anglers remarked that some people pay good money for fish pedicures, and they could be on to a new idea for using yellowbelly.
Lockie heads out for a fish with his dad as often as he can, and to date his record yellowbelly is 50cm and his personal best Murray cod is 65cm.
Fairer recycling system coming
We’ve often used this column to draw attention to the number of Victorians who have taken advantage of the NSW Government’s Return and Earn Scheme and the recycling facilities behind Ritchie’s IGA.
And now it looks as though that will all change in coming months.
Victoria has finally jumped on the band wagon and started its own container deposit scheme.
It is due to begin in November.
Environment Minister Ingrid Stitt announced the ‘CDS Vic’ scheme on Friday.
VicReturn will be the scheme’s co-ordinator and Visy, TOMRA Cleanaway and Return-It will be network operators.
CDS Vic will allow Victorians to return their used drink cans, bottles and cartons for a 10c refund.
