A few short years ago, the Deniliquin Council planted plane trees along Whitelock St in an effort to enhance the area's appeal.
Unfortunately, all of those trees have since died.
The two beautiful trees that have managed to thrive on End St, despite growing between buildings, the footpath, and the street itself, stand as a testament to the resilience of nature.
All too often, the prevailing mindset seems to be: if it moves, shoot it; if it stands still, chop it down.
If the council is genuinely concerned about maintaining Deniliquin's trees, perhaps they could consider redirecting their focus.
For example, they might look into repurposing the Waring Gardens area by filling in the lagoon and creating a well-designed concrete car park for all the town's workers - especially those who have recently been fined for parking outside their places of employment.
