Is it term two already?
The year is flying already and come Wednesday it is back to school for the start of term two.
The kids are not going to enjoy the earlier bed time in order for you to scrape them out of bed the next morning to be on time.
And yes parents or carers, put up your defensive shield to stave off the landslide of excuses why your child can’t go to school.
Top of the list is ‘I’m not feeling well’. Yet after you have caved in, you find them gaming or snapchatting a million different shots of themselves.
So after you have packed the lunches, done the school drop off and wished the kids well for the day, have that quick coffee before you tackle work or the housework.
Schools zones in force
It’s also worth reminding you all, that back to the classroom also means the return of the reduced speed limits around schools.
The 40km/h school zones help protect children on their way to and from schools at the times and places where they are often in high numbers.
This lower speed limit reduces the risk and potential severity of a crash, and school zone signs, dragon’s teeth road markings and/or flashing lights improve the visibility of these zones.
Most school zones operate from 8am to 9.30am and from 2.30 to 4pm.
School zone days include school development days, also known as student-free days.
Changed traffic conditions
Transport for NSW is continuing to repair the road surface on a 940m section of the Riverina Highway between Mulwala Canal and Aratula Road.
Edward River Council says oversize vehicles will be detoured via Aratula North Road, Mooney Swamp Road, Conargo Road and Wanderer Street in Deniliquin while the works are undertaken.
This may add an extra 15 minutes to journeys.
Single lane closures through the work site will remain in place for vehicles less than 3.5m in width.
The detour will remain in place until the completion of the project, which is expected in July 2023.
Burn protocols
The Mid Murray Rural Fire Service is reminding landholders that it is a legal requirement to notify the authorities, and your neighbours, if you plan to burn.
While permits are no longer needed for burns, there are rules and regulations that must still be followed.
It is important that landholders only burn off when it is safe to do so, and they must ensure they have proper and functioning firefighting equipment on hand.
For more information, and a handy checklist, go to https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare/farm-fire-safety/safeburning. A link to the notify portal is included in the checklist.
