Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre round one offers were released on Wednesday, which seemed to be what most local students were waiting for.
There were celebrations all round, with quite a number of the local students receiving entry to their preferred courses.
On the same day her offer arrived, Sophie Hood has already decided she would accept her place at La Trobe University Bendigo.
She hopes it will one day lead to a job in hospitals.
‘‘The offer I received was from La Trobe University for a Bachelor of Pharmacy with honours.
‘‘So I will be studying at Bendigo this year.
‘‘Deni High has prepared me for the study load that this degree will entail, through the hard work I have put into my Year 12 studies which has allowed me to be successful in gaining entry to the course.’’
For Chloe Rutter, her efforts at school will take her to Deakin University in Geelong, but not for another year yet.
‘‘I received an offer for Criminology and Psychological Science with Deakin University at the Waurn Ponds campus.
‘‘This year though I will be taking a gap year in Deni, working and travelling as much as I can and then in 2020 I will hopefully start studying.’’
Also choosing to take a ‘gap year’ in Deniliquin before taking up a place at university is Shelby Taggert, who is spending her year at Deniliquin Travel Centre.
‘‘I received my first preference from VTAC but I will be taking a year off before I begin studying the course.
‘‘I will be doing a Diploma in Parks, Recreation and Heritage at Charles Sturt University.
‘‘I’m still unsure about what I want to do, but I’m leaning towards becoming a Park Ranger.’’
Shelby said making the process easier for herself, and many other students, was the support from Deniliquin High School’s teaching staff.
‘‘They have great career advisers who effectively communicate information to students,’’ she said.
‘‘That helped me secure an offer, especially my first preference.’’
