The special event will be hosted by the Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee on Wednesday, September 3 at Deniliquin Golf Club, from 6pm to 8pm.
The date aligns with the Jean Hailes Organisation’s annual Women’s Health Week.
Each year, they roll out topics and resources to increase awareness of different health issues that affect women.
This year, the topic is ‘Say Yes to You’.
In recognition of the week, LHAC has previously provided a display and resources in the Deniliquin hospital foyer, accompanied by a social media campaign.
This year, as part of a continuation of the ‘Lifting Health Outcomes’ initiative, they have planned a specific event.
LHAC chair Lynda Barclay said the focus of the event is on the topics of menopause and osteoporosis, with other presentations reinforcing messages of how women can act to reduce risk and/or manage symptoms of these health conditions.
Research shows that about 23 per cent of women aged over 50 in Australia have osteoporosis.
Hormonal changes play a big role increasing risk of osteoporosis, as the drop in estrogen levels during and after menopause significantly impacts bone density.
“We have a great line-up of presenters who will tackle these topics from various perspectives, but also complement each other’s messaging,” Mrs Braclay said.
“George Lam and Andrea Arragon will respectively share information on osteoporosis and menopause.
“Both are physios and part of the MLHD musculoskeletal services, and Andrea also works in the Complex Menopause Service.
“Jemma Braybon, one of the local dieticians at Deniliquin Community Health, will provide information on healthy eating, specifically in relation to osteoporosis and menopause.
“Barb Anderson, a Deniliquin exercise physiologist, will bring her high energy and expertise to the floor, reminding everyone about the importance of pelvic floor exercises.
“A special presentation by Louise Mace from Nurture with Louise will talk about ‘Keeping your Cup Full’, and why self-nurturing and saying yes to you must be a priority.”
Mrs Barclay said Deni LHAC has already seen a great response to the event, and encouraged anyone wishing to attend to register early.
