It sets in motion a long term plan for the festival site to be home to more than just the famed Deni Ute Muster and the new Play on the Plains Festival.
Urban, who first graced the Deni Ute Muster stage as a headliner of the 2016 event, will return to Deniliquin and that concert stage on December 10 this year.
Joining him on the national tour, and in Deni, will be special guests Birds of Tokyo and two of Australia’s rising talents, GRAACE and Dallas Woods.
The tour is being organised by TEG Live, which has been working with Play on the Plains general manager Vicky Lowry on a Deniliquin event for some time.
“It (the use of the festival site for more events) is what we’ve been working toward; it’s not just been a dream of ours, but of previous boards, staff and management,” Mrs Lowry said.
“We have put so much work into the site to make it suitable for all kinds of events, and hopefully this is just the start of big things.
“We refer to the site as the Deniliquin Festival Site so there is no confusion with our Deni Ute Muster, and to be part of an international tour right here in Deniliquin is very exciting.”
Deni Play on the Plains Festival Ltd chairman Russell Tait said the benefit of hosting Keith Urban’s world tour will be three fold.
As well as bringing the organisation closer to its dream of being a renowned festival site for a variety of events, he says it will shine the light on the organisation and its events, and on Deniliquin as a whole.
“Tim McGregor at TEG Live has been speaking with Vicky (Lowry) for a long time, because he’s been keen to do something in Deniliquin.
“We’re thrilled that this was the opportunity.
“Having Keith Urban back in Deniliquin will be very successful, and it’s a momentous step for us.
“The more events we can have at the festival site, the more it promotes our own events and the town.
“There are people who follow Keith Urban around the country and attend as many of his concerts as possible.
“After two years of misery, having an artist of his calibre in Deniliquin will mean a huge injection for our organisation and the town.”
Mr Tait said it was also exciting to see Urban was living up to his promise of returning to play in Deni again one day.
“When he played the Ute Muster in 2016 it was an amazing performance, and he was a pretty amazing person.
“He played in the teeming rain, and went well over his set time.
“He said then that he would love to come back and do it all over again, and now that is happening.
“Being so close to Christmas it should be better weather, and of course tickets would make a great early Christmas present.”
The Deniliquin concert is one of 11 new regional concerts added to Urban’s ‘The Speed Of Now World Tour 22’.
It will be the first opportunity for fans to see him perform songs from his tenth studio album, ‘The Speed of Now Part 1’.
The global number one album includes the worldwide smash One Too Many featuring P!nk, Wild Hearts co-written by Urban, Brad Tursi, Jennifer Wayne and Eric Paslay, and Out the Cage which features Breland and the funk/pop icon Nile Rodgers.
All tickets come with the choice of adding an on site camping ticket, as well as transport options: return bus service travel from Deniliquin Festival Site from nearby towns and a town bus shuttle. Free parking is available on site.
