As part of Octopus Investments Australia’s core pillar to deliver positive outcomes for communities, it has established the Saltbush Small Grants and Sponsorship Fund.
It will initially provide up to $50,000 annually to support small projects that will benefit communities in the Hay and Edward River regions.
It comes as the proponents start community consultation on the next stage of its development application process - the preparation of the environmental impact statement.
Over the coming months, Octopus will begin technical studies in line with government legislation and guidelines and the requirements set out in the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs).
You can have your say on the project any time by completing the online feedback form on the Saltbush Wind Farm website or by calling the community information line on 1800 161 424.
The project team will also be out in the community during September, at the Hay Show on September 7 and at the Naponda Farmers’ Market in Deniliquin on September 14, between 8am and 12pm.
Octopus senior development manager Jaryd Revere said feedback would be an important part in this phase of the project, which is expected to take 12 to 18 months to complete.
“We want to hear from the community and key stakeholders to understand how we can work together to build lasting training and education programs, support local employment opportunities and boost economic and community resilience in Booroorban and the Hay and Edward River regions.”
The community find is one example, and community organisations are encouraged to apply for funds up to $5,000 for initiatives that inspire cultural enrichment, improvements in health and education, environmental sustainability, and community development.
“The Saltbush Small Grants and Sponsorship Fund is a product of conversations with the community and the first initiative we’re rolling out as part of our broader Community Benefit Program.”
